Security & Privacy – made verifiable

gruenki promises a German, green, secure AI. This page shows what actually stands behind that: where your data lives, who processes it and how it's protected – without marketing fluff. The legally binding details are in the Privacy Policy.

Where your data lives

The app and database run at STRATO GmbH in a data centre in Germany (Berlin). Your content is processed and stored exclusively in Germany – and encrypted; it never leaves the infrastructure controlled by the operator.

Where the AI runs

gruenki generates its answers on the operator's own hardware in Germany (Westerwald) – not via a US cloud AI service, as is the case with most other assistants. Your inputs are sent there over an encrypted connection and do not leave the controlled German infrastructure.

Encryption

Personal content – chats, memory, reminders and search queries – is field-encrypted in the database, i.e. encrypted at rest and not in plain text. The connection between you and gruenki is encrypted end-to-end via HTTPS. The data of different users and teams is strictly separated on a technical level (multi-tenant isolation).

No training on your data

We don't use your content for advertising, don't sell it and don't train any AI models with it. Your conversations belong to you.

Backups & resilience

The database is backed up daily in encrypted form; restoring from backup is tested regularly. If one AI machine fails, a replacement takes over automatically so the service stays available.

Your rights & how long we keep data

You can fully export your data or permanently delete your account at any time, directly within the service. We only keep data as long as necessary:

Incognito conversations are not stored at all.
Inactive accounts are flagged for deletion after 24 months (final deletion no sooner than 30 days later); any renewed use cancels this.
The security log contains only metadata (timestamp, type of action) – no content – and is deleted after 90 days.

For organisations & teams

If you use gruenki as an association, organisation or company, we'll provide a data processing agreement (DPA under Art. 28 GDPR) on request – just write to info@gruenki.de. Team accounts separate members via clear roles (Owner · Admin · Member).

Honest about the limits

A few optional features involve external services – transparently, and only when you actively use them:

Web and deep search: sends only your query terms to an external search service (Serper) – not your account, your chats or your files.
Google sign-in: contacts Google only after you click “Continue with Google“ – not on merely opening the page. Alternatively, you can sign in with email and password.
System emails run via Brevo (France, EU), payments via Mollie (Netherlands, EU).

And, said plainly, the most important point: gruenki is an AI and can be wrong. Especially for law, taxes, health and finance, its answers are guidance – not binding advice. Where possible, we ground legal questions in real sources rather than the model's memory.

Why gruenki is genuinely green

“Green“ isn't a label for us but a statement about the electricity gruenki runs on – split across the two places where gruenki works:

STRATO's data centre, where the app and database live, is verifiably powered by green electricity.
The AI servers, which by far cause the greatest power consumption, run in the Westerwald on our own photovoltaic system and the green-energy provider Naturstrom.

Precisely because AI computing is energy-intensive, this matters to us: the most power-hungry part – generating the answers – doesn't run in an anonymous cloud data centre, but on hardware we deliberately power with solar and certified green electricity.

We answer privacy questions at info@gruenki.de. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority – the competent one is the State Commissioner for Data Protection and Freedom of Information of Rhineland-Palatinate (LfDI RLP), Mainz.
